Can Suzani and Ikat Kaftan Long
Hand-dyed, hand-loomed, and meticulously handmade by skilled artisans in Uzbekistan, our Can Suzani and Ikat Kaftan showcases captivating contrast through its hand-embroidered Suzani panels. Each one-of-a-kind jacket is sewn in Turkey and finished in Germany.
In a strictly technical context within Central Asia, the term "Suzani" signifies "needle," serving as nomenclature for a form of needlework. However, within the broader audience encompassing decorators and collectors, the term bears a more visual connotation. To most, a "Suzani" evokes the splendid silk embroideries originating from Uzbekistan in Central Asia. Collaborative efforts of Uzbek women resulted in an extensive array of remarkable embroidered textiles, encompassing wall hangings, bed covers, wrapping cloths, table covers, and prayer mats tailored for their households and their daughters' dowries.
The process commences with the utilization of domestically spun and hand-loomed cotton fabric, meticulously woven on narrow looms. Assemblage of up to six cotton panels fosters the creation of sizable cloth canvases. Subsequently, employing graphite or charcoal styluses, design outlines are directly traced onto the cotton substrate. Predominantly regional, designs exhibit slight nuances, attributing them to specific locales, discernible through motif choices and employed techniques. Chain, satin, and buttonhole stitches are prevalent, alongside couching methods. Silk, employed for its vibrant and authentic hues, infuses life into the palette.
Crafted entirely from cotton and silk, the kaftan provides optimal comfort through its lining. The sizing is ONE SIZE.
